Subtalar dislocation of the foot

چکیده
Twenty patients with a subtalar dislocation of the foot are reported in this series. Thirteen cases had medial subtalar dislocation, 4 lateral, 2 posterior and 1 anterior. Open dislocation occurred in 2 cases. Manual reduction was successful in 16 cases and surgical reduction was necessary in 4. A short leg cast was applied for 36 weeks. There were no cases of aseptic necrosis of the talus. Excellent results, in terms of Hawkins' criteria (J Bone Joint Surg 1970; 52A: 9911002), were achieved in 15 cases and good results in 5. Medial subtalar dislocation can be classified into two types: swing and shift. Most swing type cases showed features making their fractures irreducible, such as interposition of a tendon or retinaculum.

Subtalar Dislocation
A 26-year-old male presented to the emergency department for right foot pain and deformity after inverting his foot while base running playing baseball. Examination revealed a medial deformity of the right foot (Figure 1). The foot was neurovascularly intact without wounds. Radiographs of the ankle demonstrated a medial subtalar dislocation (Figure 2). The dislocation was reduced using procedur...

Anterior subtalar dislocations are extremely rare. To our knowledge, only four cases have been reported in detail in the literature. A diagnosis of anterior subtalar dislocation should be confirmed by an anteroposterior view radiograph because lateral subtalar dislocation always includes some anterior displacement of the mid-foot. We report a case of anterior subtalar dislocation confirmed by b...

Subtalar dislocation refers to the simultaneous dislocation of the distal articulations of the talus at the talocalcaneal and talonavicular joints. Closed reduction and immobilization remains the treatment of choice. However, if closed reduction is unsuccessful in some patients, open reduction is required. Open reduction can be associated with higher energy subtalar dislocations. A variety of b...

In brief: Easily mistaken for an ankle fracture during the initial examination, medial subtalar dislocation-also known as 'basketball foot'-requires plaster immobilization for no more than 3 weeks. To extend immobilization beyond this time can lead to reduced range of motion in the subtalar joint, making it difficult for the athlete to resume sports activities. Encouraging toe motion while the ...
متن کاملClosed subtalar dislocation with non-displaced fractures of talus and navicular: a case report and review of the literature
Closed subtalar dislocations associated with talus and navicular fractures are rare injuries. We report on a case of a 43-year-old builder man with medial subtalar dislocation that was further complicated by minimally displaced talar and navicular fractures. Successful closed reduction under general anesthesia was followed by non-weight bearing and ankle immobilization with a below-knee cast fo...
